“The Voice” Recap: The Top 5 are Revealed Five compete for the Instant Save, as the Top 5 are revealed.

Tonight’s results show is a big one for The Voice season 19–not in length, of course, but because we’re going to find out who is heading to next week’s grand finale.

Four will advance to the finals based on last night’s votes. Then the other five artists will battle it out for the Instant Save.

All four coaches–Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, John Legend and Blake Shelton–will be represented at the finale, with at least one artist coming from each team. But it will be interesting to see which coach ends up having the advantage with two artists.

Before we get to those results, though, Kelly Clarkson and Brett Eldredge kick off the penultimate results show by performing their new holiday single, “Under the Mistletoe.” Obviously, Kelly’s voice is one of the best in the business–and it’s on full display here. This song isn’t on it, but I highly recommend you listening to her Christmas album, Wrapped in Red. And back in the day, she had two bonus songs on the American Idol: The Great Holiday Classics album. One of the tracks is her rendition of “Oh Holy Night.” It’s such a beautiful cover. In fact, it’s my favorite cover of a Christmas song.

But I’m getting way off track here, so let’s get to the results…

Like last week, Team Kelly is up first. The artist advancing to the finale is…Desz! Obviously! She had the best performance of the entire night.

Now for Team Legend. Advancing to the finale is…John Holiday! Clearly, this spot was going to one of John or Tamara Jade, so this isn’t a surprise either.

Time for Team Blake’s artists to face the music. America voted for…Jim Ranger! Whoa. I’m surprised by this. I really thought Ian Flanigan had the advantage here.

In order to drag the results out even longer, John Legend performs “Wild.” But it’s fine because who doesn’t love John’s voice?

Finally, it’s Team Gwen. The artist who is safe to compete next week is…Carter Rubin! Duh! One of the best voices in the competition.

Now it’s time for the Instant Save.

Ben Allen (“Pray for You”)
At the end of the day, while his voice is good, I’m not hearing anything distinct. Generic male country singer.

Cami Clune (“When the Party’s Over”)
Once again, her tone is beautiful. Some of those notes are absolutely exquisite. Is it enough? We’ll see.

Bailey Rae (“Your Cheatin’ Heart”)
This is kinda hokey. There’s no way she can survive the Instant Save this time.

Tamara Jade (“Feeling Good”)
I mean, this is clearly the best Instant Save so far tonight. Great song choice. Fantastic voice. Like I said last night, it’s completely effortless for Tamara.

Ian Flanigan (“Anymore”)
Ian’s voice is great and soulful and unique, just like always. If I was making the sole decision, I’d go with Tamara. But Ian’s definitely in the running here.

The Instant Save winner is…Ian Flanigan!

While Ian is definitely deserving of being in the finals, I don’t like that it’s at the expense of Tamara Jade. Get rid of Jim Ranger and replace him with Tamara, then you’d have the perfect Top 5 finale match-up.

This also means Blake has an extra artist in the finale. Major ugh. That’s not a dig at Ian, of course, because I’ve said multiple times that I like his voice.

The best singers still in the competition are Desz, John Holiday and Carter Rubin. Hopefully, one of them ends up winning. We’ll find out next week.

The Voice season 19 finale airs Monday at 8pm and Tuesday at 9pm on NBC.
