“Survivor: Ghost Island” Episode 9 Recap: Island Taco Party We all missed the food challenge. Tonight, it returned.

Well, Dom is overjoyed that Chris is finally off his back.  Last week on Survivor, Chris failed to play his idol even though he was an obvious target. But, Dom starts worrying that maybe he’s got a big target on his back in case people believe he’s as big of a threat as Chris stated. Libby is also starting to get worried since her name gets thrown out there at tribal a lot.

Wendell thinks that tribal went the way they all expected, but from here on out, it’s hard to see how the game will be played. He’s hoping to stick to his quiet group of four, with Dom, Laurel, and Donathan. Laurel, who learns that both Wendell and Dom have idols, tells Wendell he’s the only one she’ll work with. But she’s not really happy that all of these power moves are happening behind her back. “I think he’s shown that I can only trust him to a certain point,” Laurel says.

The Reward Challenge

At the Reward Challenge, the groups will be playing as two teams of six. The winning team gets tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and margaritas. Also known as, things that’ll make them super, super ill later on. Can you imagine going from eating next to nothing to eating 40 island burritos? No thanks,  Probst.

Dom and Wendell start the challenge first, which requires them to run down a small beam and try to take down a large target with a giant slingshot. Both teams are doing quite well. Donathan can barely take control of his slingshot, which is kind of funny. Angela, who I always forget about, is on the purple team and also isn’t doing so spectacular. Laurel has been super strong for the purple team and helps purple take a strong lead.

Wendell hits the final target for purple and earns his buds a taco party. The purple team also gets to choose who goes to Ghost Island, and they decide to let the orange players draw rocks. Jenna got the white rock, so she’ll be on her way.

Ghost Island

Jenna heads out to Ghost Island, and she’s actually excited to be here since she’s hoping to gain an advantage. She smashes her urn and doesn’t get a game. She’s disappointed. So instead, she gets super pissed and makes rice.

At the taco party, Wendell says she’d risk immunity for guacamole. Good thing he doesn’t have to since there’s a shit ton of it available. Guacamole, hanging outside in the island sun for some time.

Libby opens up and asks why she’s a target, and it’s pretty clear — it’s due to her alliance with Michael. They were viewed as a “power couple.” Speaking of Michael, he’s trying to solidify his alliance back on camp. He believes that Wendell and Dom together is a scary coupling. And that doesn’t seem to be a secret, as Wendell and Dom both hear about it.

“Maybe we, again, have a common easy vote,” Wendell says, in regards to Michael. “So let’s get him out of here.”

The Immunity Challenge

It’s time for the Immunity Challenge. Probst takes the necklace away from Kellyn, who states it was “fun while it lasted.” Then he reveals the challenge. And it’s an ICONIC challenge. It’s the food challenge that they’ve done multiple times. Yaaaaas.

The first item up is fish eyes. Each survivor needs to eat two of them. They were donated by local fisherman, which is nice. Michael, Desiree, and Laurel move on. Out of the next group of six, Angela, Sebastian, and Dom also move on. Wendell doesn’t even try.

The final six reveal their next obstacle — the grub that “Gervase couldn’t get down in season one.” I always wonder how it must feel for past survivors to hear their name on television years after they appeared on camera.

Sebastian, Michael, and Angela are left. They get to eat a sea slug. First two to get two of them down get to move on. Angela shoves two down her throat, but it gets stuck in her mouth and just be happy you’re reading this recap of non-slug text, as it was super disgusting. Michael moves onto the final round along with Angela. “That was a lot of protein,” Probst says.

Let’s hope the final round is a cheeseburger. It’s not! It’s a… meaty pearl? It’s gross and huge, no matter what it is. Angela, the champ she is, wins individual immunity. It’s safe to say I’ll be remembering Angela from here on out. Michael, the loser who still had to eat all that garbage, is gunning for Wendell.

Angela thinks that immunity is nice, but beating Michael is even nicer. For once, she has power! And in her eyes, it’s “new, energizing, and fun.”

Michael, who has an idol, is still trying to think of strategies. “I think it would be a big move to take out Wendell,” Laurel says. Well, that’s a huge change from what she said at the beginning of the episode. Donathan thinks the five Malolos should stick together, at least for this vote.

Donathan tells Libby they’re splitting votes between her and Michael. “I don’t know who to believe anymore,” Libby exclaims. As for Wendell, he smartly says that he doesn’t want to make the same mistake as Erik, the bonehead. He doesn’t want to get too cocky and refuse to use his immunity.

Tribal Council

It’s time for Tribal Council. Chris, the first member of the jury, comes in to watch. He talks to Angela, who says she was sick of being on the bottom and needed to win to be in control of her own game.

Michael thinks it’s important to make the right move when you have the numbers and then mentions it may be a good time to vote him out, and he shouldn’t have said that. But it’s time to vote, so we’ll see what happens.

Probst tallies the votes, and Michael goes ahead and plays his idol. “This one’s for Ozzy,” he says. But it’s not just a stick anymore. It’s a real idol! A ton of people voted for Michael, so it was a smart move on his part. And by a ton, I mean like. All, mostly. Wendell and Libby each get a vote. Then Libby gets two more. Oof.

“Good luck guys,” Libby says. Well, that was a surprise.
