“Marriage Boot Camp: Family Edition” S12E2: The Silent Booth This episode includes a lot of snakes, and I'm not just talking about Matt Baier.

On the last episode of Marriage Boot Camp: Family Edition, there was an insane show-and-tell where a Mob Wife felt unsupportive, people accused Amber Portwood of being high, and Brandi Glanville had a few weird moments with her dad, Guy. Let’s see what this episode will bring.

Amber’s room was set up to get a reaction, which she thinks is “nothing but disrespect.” Still, she thinks her family needed the wakeup call. Her room included pills and cribs, which was a bit much. Lucky for us, she gets talked down and decides to stay.

Dr. Ish and Dr. V. talk over how the contestants keep resisting things. But haven’t they only been here for like, a day? Everyone’s already quick to blame Amber for having a temper. She says she’s young, and also is bipolar and has borderline personality disorder. Chrissy says that the more she sees Amber, the more she likes her.

The First Challenge

Brandi goes outside and sees what looks to be a dunk tank. Today, they’ll be in a zen booth which makes Brandi think of Buddha and no drama. Nobody outside the booth — which looks nothing like a dunk tank, for the record — can hear what they say. Everything they want to communicate to a family member, they can get it out in the booth. Rapper Jim Jones, who’s having issues with his mom and Chrissy, acts kind of chill about the whole thing just like the other day.

“Jim is definitely in denial,” Dr. Ish says.

Brandi and Guy are up first. Guy mentions how he thinks Brandi is an escort. Next up is Matt, who thinks that Amber needs to get her anger out of control. Supposedly Amber’s mom spent her money in a casino. There was missing money mentioned on Teen Mom, but we all assumed Matt took it. According to Matt, Amber was in the booth the longest out of everyone.

Chrissy and Mrs. Jones don’t even need the booth. They’re fighting outside of it. Mrs. Jones doesn’t like Chrissy’s “ways,” and Chrissy cries in the booth while talking about her fight. Jim Jones walks in and has nothing bad to say. Because he’s hilarious. We’re going to watch him break down eventually, right?

Jim has no idea what Chrissy’s saying since he’s so checked out. The doctors tell him to get some empathy since obviously, she’s hurting. Chrissy admits that she didn’t think things would get so heavy.

The Mob Wife fam is next. Renee has a problem with Jennifer based on trust. Sounds familiar. And since the edit kind of smashes all of the ZenBooth time together, a vision of Lana in the booth follows. “When I get into this booth, I’m thinking oh my god, I’m going to lose my breath,” Lana says, before realizing that it’s a good chance for her to talk to Renee — sort of — about what she thinks.

According to Dr. Ish, they’ve all just taken one step forward. And while you’d think that’s positive, it sets off Renee, Lana, and Jenn once again. Accusations are thrown around lies and grief. Supposedly Renee is mentally unstable. And Lana used her.

“Renee has no filter,” Matt comments. He’s a fan of her show, so obviously he knows everything. Meanwhile, I’m still having problems telling the three apart. I used to have the same issue with the Kardashians but eventually got there. Also, I have no clue what’s happening. And let’s be honest, I’m paying more attention to this show right now than most.

Post-Tank

Back to everyone else. Chrissy thinks the box made her expand. In solidarity, Brandi gives her a hug, noting that she doesn’t like to hug people, so this one is meaningful. Guy pipes in and says Brandi “likes kissing other women,” which is awkward.

Mama Jones talks to Amber about holding things in. “I just wish that Matt was no longer in the picture,” Amber’s slurring mom says. Then they start talking about Jim Jones. Either I’m having a stroke, or this show is edited in a super confusing way. There are only four families at Marriage Boot Camp, but moments still jump around in a confusing way.

The Big Portwood Fight

Back to Amber. She’s drinking champagne and telling Matt that he’s been distant. Matt acts why she’s “always yelling,” and Amber says he’s nuts. “I’m tired of the damn drama,” Amber’s mom says with subtitles. It’s then revealed that Matt is a woman-abusing piece of shit. Angry Amber accuses him of putting his hands on her. Even though Matt is mega-slimy and awful, he seems genuinely shocked by these sudden accusations.

Brandi and Guy start playing pool with Amber’s mom, who has a drink in hand. Guy accuses her of having a lazy eye, while Brandi accuses him of having a lazy ballsack. This is just a scene inserted between commercials, but it makes me feel gross inside.

Dr. Ish and Dr. V think that Amber and Matt have an abusive relationship. Tonya is in the middle of their outside argument, drunk. Matt mentions that Amber went to jail for battery, not him. Then they show a fake newspaper with a headline of Amber sporting tody’s pink hair and blonde top bun, even though that happened years ago.

Back to the Mob Wife fam. “Lana and Renee have the biggest issues with each other,” Jenn says. She’s in the middle, and she’s exhausted by all of it. Chrissy also tries to chat with the sisters, since obviously, Jim Jones is asleep on a couch somewhere right now.

Crib Times

Dr. Ish comes up to check on Matt, who’s chilling in his Marriage Boot Camp crib bed, likely texting other girls. “I don’t know what changed from this morning,” Matt said. “We went downstairs, and next thing you know, she’s throwing out screaming, crying accusations. Domestic violence. Lying. That hurts.”

Ish thinks that Matt won’t be able to reason with her when she’s irrational. Matt mentions how on Teen Mom, he was painted unfairly. Eh, maybe not. But no matter what, Ish thinks he should handle himself with integrity to help erase some of the past narratives. The fact that this show is making me like Matt makes me incredibly angry, by the way.

Back at the Jones household, I was almost right! It wasn’t a couch, but Jim was resting in bed. He just wants the paycheck for his appearance. I should check out his songs after this episode wraps up.

Fear Factor

Ish brings the families together in the common room to talk about fear. Along with V, they’re introducing a special guest — Judge Lynn Toler. She talks about evaluations and punishments, starting with half of the families.

Renee and her sisters, along with the Jones family, are blindfolded and tied for a “Snake It Or Break It” challenge. They need to face the fears they had from talking out loud earlier. This time, they’re surrounded by snakes. What?

If the family reveals one thing they said in the booth, the snakes won’t be released. Otherwise, snake city. Lana and Renee quickly talk about addiction, because, snakes. They passed!

Brandi and Guy are next. They remove the blindfolds and see the snakes. Supposedly Guy is terrified of snakes. The good news is, he’s wearing a camouflage shirt, so they probably can’t see him. “When you went to New York and you were an escort,” Guy starts saying. Brandi says she has no idea what she’s talking about. She admits that if she was a hooker, would she tell her father? But a lot of that was bleeped out. “I never said that in my life,” Brandi erratically says. Judge Toler reminds Guy that he’s the father, and if someone needs to step forward, it’s him.

Matt and Amber are up next. Matt admits he’s terrified of large snakes. But since they had a huge fight, they’ll address that instead of the soundproof booth stuff. Matt says he doesn’t want anyone to think this is a physically abusive relationship since in saying so, it was a way for Amber to look good and Matt to look bad. Since Matt shut down in the challenge, he got to have snakes crawl up his legs. Amber admitted she enjoyed it.

Keeping Up With The Joneses

Now the Jones family are in the snake pit. “I’m cool, let’s do another drill,” says a freaked out Jim Jones. Both him and his mom walked out of the challenge, leaving Chrissy. Come on, that’s kind of funny. Jim likely says “Fuck those snakes!” but it’s bleeped out, so it can’t be a legit quote. The family gets called out for not actually doing any of the exercises. Jim thinks the whole experience isn’t substantial.  Not a shocker.

Based on the editing, I’m not sure if Chrissy’s booth confessional was played for everyone or just a flashback, but Jim figured it out. Later on, in their room, Chrissy admitted to Jim that she’s just tired. As for his mom, she just admits that the snakes are “a no-no.”

In the Portwood room, Amber is busy screaming at Matt in his crib. Renee comes into the room and screams at him since he put her hands on her. But did he? He denies it. Things get messy. And supposedly we’ll hear more next week.
