“Teen Mom OG” S7E16: Bonding Over A Loss Maci opens up about her miscarriage to help Cate realize how common it is.

Previously on Teen Mom OG, Ryan was all about starting a family with Mack for some awful reason, and Andrew came face-to-face with Bubby. But this week, we’re starting with Catelynn. Er — Catelynn’s husband. Tyler is getting ready to have a visit with Catelynn in rehab, and Nova is super excited to see her mom.

Tyler talked a little about Butch and mentions he’s going through the steps. Cate, confused, just thought the steps were for alcohol. Nova tries to get Catelynn to come to the car with her and doesn’t really understand why she can’t.

At Maci’s place, Jen and Larry stop by to pick up Bentley, as Ryan can’t look after him without their supervision. Best dad ever. Maci and Taylor sit back and talk about Catelynn. Maci wants to visit her, and is planning on going out this weekend. “I think you should go,” Taylor says. “You said many times that Amber and Catelynn were like your sisters.” Taylor will be totally cool with taking care of the kids by himself. Best dad ever.

Amber Knows What Y’all Have Been Saying

Amber is a little ticked since she realized that Gary and Kristina talked about her in a past episode. To be fair, everything they said was legit. “It’s not even true, first of all,” she says. She says she’s seen her three times, not two. But I’m pretty sure in the clip, they do say three. Anyway — Amber is sad since she knows that Leah will see her stepmom talking garbage on Amber someday. But she’ll probably miss the footage of her mom trying to slap Farrah during the reunion.

Cut to Gary. He talks about the situation with Kristina, saying he got a call from her. He mentions that she took a few months off for the summer and because she was sad over the breakup. “I can’t take a break,” he says. “I did not make her snort a pill.” Outraged, he wants her to put her damn kid first.

Tyler is back home, struggling to put Nova down for a nap. The fam talks about how it was a good week April says there was an exercise that let her state how Catelynn’s been helpful, and what she’s learned from her. Of course, she mentioned the adoption. For Catelynn, she learned from April “how to be a bitch.” Laughter is had. April isn’t the greatest, but that was kind of a fun zinger.

Visiting Cate

Maci is getting ready for her trip to see Cate, and Taylor tells her that they’ll be watching football the whole time. Jayde starts crying, and Maci reiterates that she hopes he’ll have fun.

Back at Ryan’s house, Mack is telling her son Hudson that she’s just like his father, which is wonderful. Because every child under the age of five should know the poor qualities of their parents. She and Ryan talk about feeling sorry for fathers, or something. Wasted airtime. I really miss Farrah during these moments.

Catelynn and Tyler’s family members think that Maci flying in is a good thing since then she’ll be able to see a friend. Two seconds after talking about how he hasn’t talked to Butch since dropping him off at rehab, Butch gives Tyler a call. Prior to, Tyler only got updates from his counselors. He tells him he’s in Arizona, and when Butch asks why, Tyler’s only able to tell him that it’s kind of a long story.

Gary’s Fear

Amber and her new boyfriend leave Bubby’s place and go right to Gary’s to drop off Leah. Gary’s a little terrified that Amber might try to start something, but says he’ll be shutting his door if she tried to bring up the MTV comments in front of Leah.

Leah arrives via a gigantic camper van, and I’m not sure if that was Amber’s idea or MTV’s. But here’s what I do know — it is obviously winter, and Gary is rocking short sleeves.

Maci arrives in Arizona with her producer Jeni, telling her that she doesn’t really know what happened. She’s just happy she’s where she should be in rehab. Tyler and Nova give Maci a big hug, and Tyler catches Maci up a bit. “She’s in good spirits right now,” Tyler says. Tyler drives Maci over to see Cate, and Maci comments that the whole Arizona scenery reminds her of Breaking Bad.

Maci asks Cate what’s been going on, and she said she’s been through therapy, and group therapy. Cate opens up about the miscarriage and notes how she’s had so many traumatic events surrounding pregnancy. “I think that’s where my anxiety came from,” she says. She mentions that she bought a car seat that sat on her porch for days. Maci mentions she’s also been through one this year, and that they hadn’t told anyone. She said she found out she was pregnant through a blood test after going in to do a test for PCOS, and lost it very early, and didn’t tell Taylor for months.

Ryan’s family is all out bowling, and the topic of Mackenzie’s schooling comes up. Then, they talk about babies. “I think you should wait a couple years,” Jen says. She wants Ryan to be “secure in his health,” otherwise known as “sober.”

Tweets Of Fury

The show dedicates a few minutes showing negative tweets to Amber. Note, there’s a rumor that Matt used to delete all the negative stuff before she saw it, based on some comments he made in the past. So she might think this criticism is new, but people have had thoughts about her and Leah for quite some time. The whole thing also puts Kristina in a tough place. “I just hate the tension,” she says.

Back at Tyler’s rental, he admits that once the miscarriage happened, everything exploded. He says they were pregnant for three weeks, but the miscarriage looked like “a murder scene.” It was traumatic for him, as well. “There’s literally nothing I can do about it,” Tyler says. Maci notes that she believes in God, and felt as if her miscarriage was a sign that she wasn’t meant to be that child’s mother. This is such an important conversation, and I’m glad MTV is airing it.

Amber talks to David the producer about how she feels, and thinks she shouldn’t be bashed for being on another show for three weeks (ahem — Marriage Boot Camp) and notes how she is so close to cursing people out on Twitter and has stopped herself a couple times. “Sometimes it goes through,” she says with a laugh. She says that she’s going to be the mother of two, so she just can’t act that way anymore. “Leah knows I love her to death,” Amber says. “She’s good.”

Driving back, Maci talks to Jeni and says that it was nice to share her experience with Cate. She was the first person aside from Taylor (and the whole crew) who knew about it. “You feel this void but you’re not really sure why,” Maci says. “It’s just weird.”

Meeting back up with Taylor, she asks about the kids. Then, Taylor asks how Cate was. Maci admits that Cate had a miscarriage, and decided to share hers. “They were kind of shocked, but I felt like it was necessary to share it with them,” Maci says. Taylor shares his own words about how he feels, and all in all, it’s just good for them to know they’re not alone.
